A former Premier League star says he has “new confidence” after undergoing a hair transplant in London.

The former Aston Villa defender had 4,085 hairs implanted on his head because he wants to “look his best” while talking about the beautiful game on television.

Ahmed Elmohamady spent seven full seasons playing in the Premier League for Sunderland, Hull City and Aston Villa, and now works in the latter's commercial department.

The 37-year-old was also capped by Egypt, earning 92 caps and twice winning the African Cup of Nations, while playing alongside Mohamed Salah.

Many football stars, including Wayne Rooney, Andros Townsend, Rob Holding and Salah, have allowed operators to go to town over the years.

'New hair, new confidence! “After years of dealing with hair loss, I decided it was time for a change,” Elmohamady wrote on Instagram.

'Thanks to DHI London, I had 4,085 hairs implanted using their advanced DHI technique – no shaving, no fuss and a natural look I know I'll love.

'The best part? Full results will be visible in about a year and I can't wait to see the transformation. It's not just about the hair; it's about feeling good about yourself and improving mental health.'

Elmohamady spoke further about the reasons for her hair transplant, adding, “I did the hair transplant because I wanted to boost my confidence.”

'I have been suffering from hair loss for the last five years and felt it would give me a little boost to be able to fix it.

'A lot of men get help with their hair and it's really no big deal.

“Obviously, Wayne Rooney was the first high-profile footballer to be really open about his transplant.

'I admired Wayne for going public and he looked much better after his treatment.

'But it was another Wayne who really inspired me to do it.
