Mitchell Owen powered his way to a 39-ball century during Monday's Big Bash final as the Hobart Hurricanes chased down Sydney Thunder's first innings score of 182 runs.
Their heroics saw the Hobart Hurricanes secure the first Big Bash League victory in 14 years in front of their home fans at Ninja Stadium in Tasmania.
The 23-year-old was branded 'brave' by some on social media as he took the crease to produce a historic knock, racing to a half-century after just 16 deliveries.
Amazingly, Owen hit 11 sixes during the match before he was finally caught at deep square leg for 108 runs.
But the crazy knock saw him equal the record for the fastest century in a Bash grand final which was set by Craig Simmons in 2014, who scored his ton after 39 deliveries.
He also became the first cricketer to score 11 Sixes in a Bash grand final, bringing the home fans to their feet with some incredible shots over the boundary. He had broken the record after hitting his ninth six off 30 deliveries.
“It's pretty special to be honest, but it will be even more special when we get those last 44 runs,” Owen told Fox Cricket after walking from the field.
'A little emutional it's been a long journey. We haven't performed that well in recent years,' said Matthew Wade.
“Having Mitch Owen helps too,” he said with a laugh. 'What he has done in this BBL, there is nothing like it. That was a nice next level shot.
