Borussia Dortmund is about to appoint the former manager of Bayern Munich and Monaco Niko Kovac, according to reports.

The German giants, who fired Nuri Sahin after only seven months in the beginning of this month, have been looking for a successor and seem to have found their man in Kovac, who has trained Croatia, Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich, Monaco and Wolfsburg during his managerial career so far.

Kovac's imminent appointment is a blow to those who expect to see former Manchester United manager Erik Ten, return to the bench, since he was strongly linked to work only months after being fired by the Red Devils.

Mail Sport reported last week that, despite having conversations with the German club, Ten Hag was not in dispute for the role because the Dutchman wanted to wait until at least the summer before returning to management.

It is also understood that ten hag is still being paid by the united man as compensation for his termination.

According Sky Sports GermanyKovac has agreed to join Dortmund as manager until 2026.

Kovac has been without work since he was fired by Wolfsburg last March.

The former Croatian captain won a domestic acute with Bayern in the 2018-19 season, but went in six months.

Sahin was fired by Dortmund after a shady start of the season, with the hesitant team in the Bundesliga and, below the points required to automatically qualify for the Champions League last 16.

In a club statement that confirms Sahin's departure, Dortmund's sports director Lars Ricken said: 'We value Nuri Sahin and his work, we expected a long -term collaboration and until the end we expected that we could achieve a sporting change together together .

'After four consecutive defeats, due to only one victory in the last nine games and currently the tenth at the Bundesliga table, unfortunately we have lost the faith in order to achieve our sports goals in the current constellation. This decision hurts personally, but it was inevitable after the game in Bologna.

Sahin, 36, was also cited: 'Unfortunately, we have not managed to live up to Borussia Dortmund's sports ambitions this season. I wish this special club all the best.
