New York Jets appoints its new defensive coordinator as the reconstruction rate of Aaron Glenn

The Jets have officially appointed their new defensive coordinator while Aaron Glenn continues to complete their staff in New York.

The first chief coach, who served as a defensive coordinator of Los Leones, brought Tanner Engstrand of Detroit to serve as Gang Green's offensive coordinator.

And on Saturday, the Jets announced that Steve Wilks had been used to lead the defense of the team.

The most recent Wilks NFL work came in the 2023 season, since it was the defensive coordinator of a 49ers team that arrived at the Super Bowl.

He also served as a defensive coordinator of the Panthers and Browns, and spent a year as a coach of the cardinals.

Wilks was also the interim Panthers coach in 2022 for 12 games.

As noted in the Jets websiteWilks's 49ers defense was tied first in interceptions and third in Rush's notes and defense in 2023.

Glenn said at his introductory press conference that he would not call the plays in defense.

“I want to be the best chief coach you can find,” he said. “To do that, I think I need to manage the game, so I will have my OC and my DC, those boys will call the play.”

Wilks was more recently voluntary advisor at the University of North Carolina in the Charlotte football team during the 2024 season.

With Aaron Rodgers in the center for the full season, the jets had a greatly disappointed 5-12 season when chief coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas lost their work.

In addition to their enemies, this usual AFC, the jets will play the Broncos, Steelers, Ravens and Buccaneers next season, all of which arrived at the playoffs.
