Celtic last night sealed a loan agreement for Jeffrey Schlupp of Crystal Palace, but failed in his attempts to sign a direct replacement for Kyogo Furuhashi.
Schlupp, who is 32 years old, can operate on the left side, in the center of the field or later and will provide the Brendan Rodgers manager with a versatility at the end of the season.
Born in Hamburg but raised in England, the Ghanaian international was a teammate of Leicester City of Kasper Schmeichel, since the Foxes won the Premier League in 2016.
Out of contract at the end of this season, Schlupp made more than 200 appearances for Palace after joining Leicester for £ 12 million in January 2017.
“The team has already brilliantly made this season, both nationally and in Europe, and I know that I will join a really successful team,” said the player.
“But I want to add to this, play my own role and help us achieve even more.”

Brendan Rodgers had wanted to bring another striker, but failed to reach an agreement on the line
While Rodgers will be delighted to add Schlupp's experience to his team, he will feel disappointed that the club has not obtained the progress he longed for.
Furuhashi left for Rennes for £ 10 million more than a week ago, but Celtic had been preparing to lose it for a year.
The club had been repeatedly linked to Bondby's success, Mathias Kvistgaarden, with Slovan Bratislava striker, David Strelec, also thought he was in his radar, but nothing materialized.
Speaking after Sunday's victory over Motherwell, Rodgers suggested that a loan agreement was now the most likely result, but made it clear that he expected a new face to arrive.
“The club knows my feelings, they know why I returned,” he said.
'I am here to enjoy my time in Celtic, not to fall with myself and do all the things I sometimes did not do the first time.
'But the demand is still there to improve the squad. We have to do it. We have to make sure there is a constant improvement. That has been clear.
'Luckily, we only have the finished job we want to do. I don't hope it is stirred, but I hope we can get out of this strongest window. And that has always been the plan.
Kyogo Furuhashi's departure has left Celtic light on the front, with Adam Idah to lead the line
While Schlupp could play theoretically in advance, Adam Idah now seems to be the number 1 striker of Rodgers for the rest of the campaign.
Daizen Maeda can be asked to enter the wing and play in the central position, where he has often been deployed by Japan.
Johnny Kenny can also have the opportunity to shine after St Mirren's commitment to take him to loan was rejected, although Shamrock Rovers is anxious to take it for a third spell.
The clubs in Ireland have until February 22 to conclude their winter business, but Kenny would need to be at the door on Thursday at midnight to register on time for the draw of the Playoffs of the League of the European Conference against Mold.
Daniel Cummings, who made his debut in the first team in Villa Park last week, will be in Parkhead until summer when he is ready to join West Ham.
Celtic strengthened his broad positions this month with the return of Jota of £ 8 million Rennes, while Kieran Tierney agreed to come in summer once his contract with Arsenal exhausts.
