- NFL historical game in MCG in September 2026
- First time a low regular season game will be maintained
It is likely that the first regular NFL season game at the MCG faces the opening week of the AFL series of next year.
The executive vice president of the NFL, Peter O'reilly, said in the announcement of Thursday morning that the League has not decided when the game will be played in 2026, but it could be in week one of the US season.
Given the beginning of the NFL in the first week of September, that would mean that it faces the first round of the AFL final series.
Next year's game will be the first time that the NFL has played a regular seasonal game in the Asia-Pacific region, after the Denver Broncos and the San Diego Chargers played a preseason game in Sydney in 1999.
The Los Angeles Rams have been confirmed as the host team and their opposition will be the Philadelphia Eagles, who have an imposing Australian Jordan Mailata on their list.
It is a several years since the NFL continues its international expansion.
