Marcus Stoinis has announced his immediate retirement from the one -day international cricket to only two weeks from the Australian Champions Trophy campaign.
Australia staggered on Thursday when Captain Pat Cummins (ankle) and Josh Hazlewood (side) were officially discarded outside the tournament that began in Pakistan this month.
Cricket Australia said the couple was starting an 'extended rehabilitation period', having lost the current series of Sri Lanka tests to recover.
But there is no suggestion that Australia's clash against South Africa is lost in the final of the World Testing Championship in June.
With Mitch Marsh (back) outside, Australia will decide between Steve Smith and Travis Head as a replacement pattern for the next two hate against Sri Lanka and the subsequent champions trophy.
The pacemakers are Abbott, Spencer Johnson and Ben Dwarshuis will join the Australian team for the two hate in Colombo.

Any of the trios could be retained for the Champions Trophy, as well as the rounding of the Tanveer Sangha legs, the Allrounder Cooper Connolly and the Batter Jake Fraser -mcgurk, they also called the team for the Odi de Sri Lanka.
Australia does not need to finish the Champions Trophy team until February 12, the same day they play the first game in Colombo.
“While (the situation of the injury is) disappointing, it presents a great opportunity for other players to work for Australia in a worldwide event,” said Chief selector George Bailey.
Stainis announced his earlier retirement on Thursday.
The 35 -year -old sold 74 Odi for Australia, but had only been selected once since he played in the victorious 2023 World Cup campaign in India.
Stainis was named in the preliminary squad for Sri Lanka Odis and the Champions Trophy campaign that begins against England on February 22.
Instead, it will be removed from the format to focus on the TWENTY20 International Cricket and Cricket.
Stoinis is still a highly qualified T20 player, more recently winning the selection in the Big Bash League tournament team for helping Melbourne's stars to return to the finals.
He is currently playing for Durban super giants in SA20 competition.

“This was not an easy decision, but I think it is the right time to get away from hate and focus completely on the next chapter of my career,” Stoinis said.
'I will be encouraging the boys in Pakistan.'
Stoinis played his last hate against Pakistan last November and retired with an average batting of 26.69, including 146 undefeated against New Zealand in 2017.
He took 48 WICKETS ODI to an average of 43.12.
