The former captain of England is currently without work after being fired as Plymouth manager on the eve of the New Year.
Rooney has previously worked as an expert for multiple different stations, including the presentation in Match of the Day for the BBC.
He has also appeared in Sky Sports and TNT Sports as an expert, but, according to reports, he could join a rival in Amazon Prime.

The report states that Rooney could be his expert star for his Manchester City coverage and the draw at the Real Madrid Champions League Play-Off next Tuesday.

According to the reports, Amazon is interested in adding the Manchester United Legend to its regular rotation of experts for the tournament.
The radio station already has Alan Shearer and Daniel Sturridge among her experts, while Frank Lampard appeared in coverage earlier this season before becoming a Coventry manager.
Amazon shows the best game on Tuesday every week in the competition, since they share the rights of the Champions League with TNT Sports.
Rooney still does not agree on an agreement, says the report, but it is said that it is on demand with several stations.
Last month reports that Rooney has been in conversations about joining Match of the Day as a regular expert next season.
He followed Kelly Cates confirming, Mark Chapman and Gabby Logan as the hosts after Gary Lineker's game at the end of the season as part of a broken three people.
