An Edmonton man who was attacked in a resort bar in the Dominican Republic is outside the hospital.
Cindy Rowan says he relieved his son, Chase Delore-Rowan, he is also speaking for the first time since January 14, when he was beaten on the floor during a family vacation that celebrate his 18th birthday.
She says that doctors are still trying to find out when they can replace a piece of their skull that was removed to allow their swollen brain space to recover, then threw.
“It is communicating very well and has no pain. He is happy and makes jokes a lot, ”Rowan said.
“Doctors are trying to train their brain, because part of it is still dead.”

Delore-Rowan was at the Resort Bar in Punta Cana with his family when they say he was raised by the neck of his shirt and beaten in a tile floor.
His skull was broken from top to bottom, and a blood clot of the size of a grapefruit evicted his brain, his mother said.
A Canadian man who was also invited in the complex was accused of assault that caused bodily damage and remains in custody in the Caribbean island.
Delore-Rowan was transferred back to Edmonton and has been receiving treatment at the Hospital of the University of Alberta.
He woke up last week and murmured: “'Hello, mom,” said his mother.
It was difficult to tell him what happened, he said.
“He cried and said: 'That is the past, look forward.'”
He has received hundreds of messages from friends and loved ones on social networks, he added. It also continues to undergo physiotherapy.
“I am happy to be in Canada, I tell you. Definitely happy to be at home. Happy to be in a good hospital. His doctors are incredible, ”Rowan said.
“A lot of stress is out of my shoulders.”
