Warren Gatland admitted that it was time for a change in the Welsh rugby after he started from his role as Wales Chief Coach, with Matt Sherratt assuming the position of the rest of the six nations.
As revealed by Mail Sport, Gatland has continued after presiding over a record of 14 consecutive international losses, the last of which was a defeat by 22-15 by Italy in Rome last Saturday.
Sherratt, currently Cardiff Chief coach, will now be in charge of Wales for the remaining championship games of the 2025 team with Ireland, Scotland and England interim.
Gatland and the Welsh Rugby Union have agreed to separate by the mutual agreement.
After returning for a second period as a coach in Wales in December 2022, Gatland's mandate has seen him win only six of 26 games in charge.
“I would like to thank the WRU Board for the faith shown in me after a hard campaign for 2024 and give me the time and resource to try to change things for this 2025 tournament,” Gatland said.

The current chief coach of the Leicester Tigers, Michael Cheika, Franco Smith of Glasgow and Simon Easterby, in charge of Ireland for these six nations, are interests for the long -term WRU's hierarchy, but none can assume the role for the rest for the rest of the rest of the rest of six nations.

Sherratt became a Cardiff Rugby chief coach in 2023 and has also trained in Ospreys, Bristol and Worcester. Sherratt also worked with Wales as an assistant coach in 2017.
Cardiff's president of Rugby, Alun Jones, said: 'We are really proud since a Matt club is obtaining this recognition and opportunity.
'He is a fantastic person and coach and deserves this opportunity. He has a history of developing talent, obtaining the best of young players and using a positive game style.
'That is clear to see in the reconstruction work he has done in the club and continues to lead.
'This is obviously a moment of necessity and we are happy to support not only the continuous development of Matt, but also the union of Rugby Wales in the six nations. I am sure he will do a great job and I hope he returns after the conclusion of the championship.
