Jerry “The Iceman” ButlerA legendary R&B singer and long-time politician in Illinois died.
MartyJerry's assistant and “niece in the heart”, says TMZ … He died on Thursday evening in his house in Chicago for natural reasons. Marty notes that Jerry suffers from the Parkinson's disease.
She continues: “An amazing man moved to heaven. Our loss here on earth.”
Butler was the main person of the R&B group The Impression – including Curtis Mayfield. As a member of the group, he was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.
Jerry had an incredibly successful solo career with hits like “only the strong survival” and “never give up”.
Jerry had a remarkable career in politics and was a commissioner for Cook County, Illinois from 1985 to 2018. As a member of the County Board, he headed the health and hospitals committee and was deputy chairman of the building committee.
He was 85.
