Gregor Towsend insisted that he felt proud instead of frustrated despite the fact that Scotland slid to a first defeat in the Calcuta Copa since 2020.

'Normally, when you have that amount of pressure on the occasions to score the points, you get more on the board. So that is a job. But I am very proud of the group for that effort and that ability at the end of a game (when they scored their third attempt).
'They did everything possible to retain the Calcutta Cup, but it was probably due to the defense of England and also kicked their penalties when they obtained them in the second half.
'I think it's probably more difficult for players because to play well you have to make a great effort and they did. And being at the end of a game knowing that they approached so much to the effort, I have been in that costume before and it is very difficult.
'But we ask them to fulfill the effort, the execution, and they did today.
'We were very close to obtaining a historical victory and, whether one kick or other decision at the end of the game, we are all in the future. We would like to talk about a brilliant victory, but we are not. And that is credit to England for staying at the end.
Towsend revealed that part of his coaching staff had questioned whether Tommy Freeman had based the ball for England's attempt and felt that Scotland had not obtained the friction of the green sometimes from the French referee, Pierre Brousset.
“I really didn't look at him, but I heard the coaches say he wasn't punished,” he added. 'But it was the following that it was a start.

'I'm going to go through the game to see if we could have had better decisions. I felt that the decision he told us to win three points, where we eliminated someone from Ruck, simply I don't know what a penalty is like.

The defeat ended the thin possibility that Scotland won at six nations, but Towsend insisted that it would not be difficult to raise his players for the final two games against Wales and France.
He added: 'I think it will not be too difficult (lift them) because we ask them to show who we are as a team today and I think we did. So, much of what we work and what we show today, we have to take that out in the next two games. They will be difficult challenges.
'I saw a lot of the Wales game today, they played very well. And we know we will have to develop what we did today.
'And then there is Paris, which will be a very difficult game against France. But how we play today far from homemade programs that we can create and write down attempts against a very good defense '.
