When Shanghai's designer, Guo Qingshan, published a vacation photo on Valentine's Day and subtitled it “Puppy Mountain”, became a sensation in China and even created a tourist destination.
Guo had gone to a walk while visiting his hometown of Yichang in the province of Hubei in center of China at the end of January. When checking the photos, he saw something he had not noticed before: a head -shaped mountain of a dog rested on the floor next to the Yangtze River, his snout perched on the edge of the water.
“It was so magical and cute. I was so excited and happy when I discovered it, ”Guo said.
“The puppy's posture is as if it were drinking water, or is looking at some fish. It also seems that the Yangtze River is silently protecting, ”he said.

Guo's publication in the application of Chinese social networks Xiaohongshu, or Rednote, received 120,000 I like in 10 days. On the Weibo media platform, the hashtag #xiagoShan, Chinese for “Puppy Mountain”, attracted millions of views.

The dog owners began publishing photos of their dogs to see which one had the closest resemblance. Many people traveled directly to the location in Yichang to see the mountain themselves and some even brought their dogs to take photos.

“Puppy Mountain here I am!” A social media user wrote on Rednote along with photos of the mountain. “Simply caress the puppy's head and then everything will be fine.” Another user of social networks commented: “We all need our eyes to see beauty in this world.”

Yang Yang, who lives about an hour and a half of the place, led with his friends and his 2 -year -old gray caniche named Yang Keyi.
“I was very happy to see the mountain,” he said. “I always travel with my dog if possible, so Puppy Mountain and my own small dog really coincide.”
The mountain is in Yichang Zigui County, where you can see from an observation cover. The Yangtze River, the longest river in China and the third longest river in the world, flows through the mountainous area.
After Guo's photo went viral, many people shared photos of the view they had previously taken from the same deck, many saying that they had not realized that it looked like a dog. Some discussed how the dog's appearance has changed over the years.
Yichang's resident, Shi Tong, said he knew he had seen the mountain before, and published a photo he took from the location in 2021.
“After seeing the photo of Puppy Mountain online, I tried to look up where it is. And then I realized that I had been in this place before. I thought it also looked like a dog at that time!
