After a stab of the Super Bowl defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles last month, Kansas City bosses are making progress ahead of what should be a busy free agency period.
Kansas City is moving to the offensive liner All-Pro Joe Thuney to the Chicago Bears, according to multiple reports.
According to ESPN, the Chiefs will get a return from a selection of the fourth round of 2026.
The reports indicate that Thuney could be online for a contract extension with the bears, but it is not clear what the term or salary would be.
Currently, Thuney is in the last year of a five -year contract and $ 80 million signed in Kansas City in 2021.
It is ready to earn a base salary of $ 15.5 million, which globes to a limit of $ 26.9 million after bonds and contract restructuring.
As Ian Raport of NFL Network explains, Kansas City has' the best paid guard (Trey Smith) and the center (Creed Humphrey) and cannot pay everyone. They direct their attention to free agency.
The bosses will not only seek to improve their offensive line in free agency, but they will also be asked to try to make agreements with the series of their own players who will reach the market.
Thuney is four times Super Bowl champion, after winning two titles with the New England Patriots and two in Kansas City.
He has been named for the All-Pro team four times (twice first team, twice in the second team) and is a three times Pro-Bowler.
Last season, Thuney ranked first in the league at the rate of pass -block victories between the guards, according to ESPN.
