- Ferdinand showed doubts about Arsenal's possibilities to win the Champions League
- He says that Arsenal has taken a step back this season and needs to recruit
- Listen now: Everything is starting! Is Alisson the best goalkeeper of the Premier League?
Río Ferdinand has questioned Arsenal's possibilities to win the Champions League, which suggests that Mikel Arteta team would fight against at least four other teams.
The Gunners put themselves in a dominant position to reach the quarterfinals after an impressive 7-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven, a historical result that made them the first team to score seven goals in a knockout match in the Champions League.
Arsenal's emphatic victory came at a crucial moment, after two disappointing actions and seeing Liverpool extend his leadership at the top of the Premier League table.
Despite the dominant exhibition, Ferdinand is not convinced about Arsenal's ability to go in Europe. He believes that they are only the fifth most leading team in his half of the draw, where they could face Real Madrid or Atlético de Madrid in the quarterfinals before a possible semifinal against Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Aston Villa or Club Brugge.
“I think they are probably the fifth best team in the Champions League on that side of the draw, Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel. 'I am not even talking about all the competition, on that side of the draw.
'They are behind Liverpool, Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. Arsenal is the fifth best team on that side of the raffle. That is crazy.

'They have gone further from where they were last year. They have backed away, I think that. Recruitment must change a bit.
'You can't have a CDM (Mikel Merino) playing in advance when you try to win the Premier League and the Champions League. They had an opportunity in January (to sign a new striker) but there were no loads available.
'I would definitely have made a line line for a front center, 100 percent. Kai Hvertz has done a good job, but you need a number 9, surely.
Ferdinand, who won the Champions League with Manchester United, discussed the European Perspectives of Arsenal along with TNT Darren Fletcher sports commentator. Fletcher was even more derogatory with Arsenal's possibilities.
“I think they are at miles away,” Fletcher said when asked if Arsenal could lift the trophy. 'You just said they are fifth in the middle of the tie they are.
'Then you look at Barcelona and Bayern Munich on the other side of the draw. You can't win it from there. I think they are at Miles to win a Premier League, the Champions League does not matter. I think they have backed away. I don't see it.
The Arsenal Route to the final seems particularly challenging, since they share their side of the draw with the winning queen of the Real Madrid Champions League, the leaders of the Premier League Liverpool and the PSG of the French champions.
Meanwhile, the other half of the draw presents to the friends of the Bundesliga Bayern Munich, the leaders of the Barcelona League and the finalists of last season Inter Milan.
