Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard admitted that “it has not been good enough” this season.
Odegaard delivered 23 goals and 17 assists in the last two seasons of the Premier League, but so far he has only scored twice and set another three goals during the current campaign.
But one of his best performances for a long time arrived on Tuesday when Arsenal throbbed the PSV Eindhoven 7-1 in the first leg of his 16-draw round in the Champions League.
The 26 -year -old played the full 90 minutes in the Netherlands, scoring twice before helping a goal for Riccardo Calafiori. Speaking before the journey of the Premier League on Sunday to Manchester United, Odegaard challenged himself to produce more performances of that level.
“I am very used to the people who talk about me, judging my performances and I do it myself,” he said. 'I am harder with myself and I know that I have not been good enough, especially in front of the goal.
'Work hard every day to improve it and I know I have the ability and talent to do so. PSV Eindhoven was good and I hope you can do more towards the end of the season.

He added: 'With the players we have (we injure), the rest of us have to intensify even more. It is good that we can share the objectives and hope to continue doing that. '
Arsenal won 1-0 at Old Trafford at the end of last season. Since then, United has lost seven of its last 23 games in all competitions, including the humble defeats of Brighton and Crystal Palace this calendar year.
When Old Trafford still had a fear factor for opposite teams, Odegaard replied: 'I don't know. I mean, they are not where they want to be on the table.
'It is a great club that has fought a little. They have a lot of individual quality and when they play as a team, it is a challenge to play them. But we go there to win. We are arsenal and we are not scared.
Arsenal will enter the 16-point game on Sunday behind the leaders of the Premier League, Liverpool, who came from behind to overcome Southampton 3-1 on Saturday.
However, the gunners are at all 21 points above the United, who sit around the table in 15.
