Sam Lalor has opened in his moving tribute to Brisbane Great Troy Selwood during the crash of round 1 on Thursday night between Richmond and Carlton.
The selection of the number 1 draft caused the Tigers to a sensational victory against the blues, with the 18 -year -old superstar starting two goals in their gain of 13.4 (82) to 9.15 (69) in the MCG.
Selwood died tragically in February, at age 40, with Lalor seen with a black bracelet in memory of the great Brisbane. He and other members of the Tigres team also carried black bracelets in memory of the Tigres Chris Toce recruiter, who died tragically in 2024.
After hanging his boots in 2010, Selwood would continue working on the recruitment of players, using his elite and his extensive knowledge of the game to help Geelong sign for Shannon Neale and Brad to close.
He would also work at Geelong Grammar as head of the school, which is where he crossed with Lalor, a school student.
Before his death, Brisbane's tagger had conducted an interview with the age, in which he grouped Lalor praise and was in love with his football and Cricket skills.

The great Brisbane died tragically last month, 40 years, and had previously advised Lalor during his time as a soccer chief at Geelong Grammar

On Thursday night, Lalor revealed that he had contacted Great Geelong Joel Selwood to ask if he could use a black bracelet to honor his brother Troy.
“I really called him a couple of days ago and let him know that he would use a bracelet for his brother Troy,” Lalor explained Channel 7 After the game.
'It was an incredible mentor for me. I wouldn't be here without him.
'Joel was quite happy and emotional. He sent me a message of good luck and, yes, very proud to use this and I am happy to be able to do this.
While Richmond's debutants, Harry Armstrong and Luke Trainor also impressed Thursday, Lalor left many guests, with their explosive power and rhythm.
Troy Selwood had previously talked about the young man's talents after advising the Youngster Tigers at school.
But he added that Lalor could have lowered a very different sports path.
“The boys used to leave when Sammy reached the fold and saw him hit,” Selwood told age, speaking in Lalor Crick's feats while playing for Geelong Grammar.

Reflecting on tonight's victory, Lalor said: “I loved playing, it was electric, what way to win”
“Those windows of the pension house approached them several times.”
Lalor has often been compared to Dustin Martin for his ability to exploit in space with football. But his mentor, Selwood, compared it to two other players.
“It is super explosive, hence comparisons with 'dusty' or with Petracca or with these type players,” said Selwood.
'I feel that this is more the type of player. Look, everyone is quite similar, but I feel like Petracca and Goey, when I see him play, I think of those first boys … It is a bright brand high.
'And he did it all over the ground, especially as a year 11, it was simply sensational.
“He showed some of that this year in the national championships, taking a couple of fantastic brands … it will be very harmful if he advances.”
On Thursday, Lalor seemed composed and very before his years.
The 18 -year -old debutant even ignored any statement that he had been nervous before the party.
'I was quite relaxed all week and even today I felt relaxed. As soon as I went to the ground and soaked everything, I took full advantage, “he said.
