The legendary sports journalist John Feinstein died at the age of 68, the The publication has announced.
Feinstein, the best -selling author of more than 40 books, died at his brother Robert in McLean, Virginia, Thursday.
Robert confirmed his brother's death, but said the cause was not clear immediately.
The news of Feinstein's death occurs only a few hours after his final column for the Washington Post was published online early Thursday.
The iconic reporter first joined the post as a reporter of the Night Police in 1977 before moving to the world of sport.
Covered a wide range of sports; Write books about baseball, football, tennis, golf and the Olympic Games.
However, Feinstein was better known for his work in university basketball, with his 1986 book 'A Season on the Brink', with the volatile male basketball coach from the University of Indiana, Bob Knight, one of the best -selling sports books of all time.
