Xander Schauffele admitted that his game is in a 'gross' state after a miserable opening of two rounds of the players' championship left the world No. 3 in danger of missing the cut for the first time in 59 tournaments.
Schauffele made a crucial birdie in the final hole of his second round to end in one pair. At the time of writing, the leaders were in -11 and the cutting line was level.
The world No. 3, who won two older ones in 2024, has made the weekend of 58 consecutive PGA Tour events before this, the longest streak of any active player.
In the first days here, he played with Rory Mcilroy and Scottie Scheffler in a box office success in TPC Sawgrass.
But while Mcilroy increased to nine bass torque, and Scheffler fought with -5, Schauffele admitted that he is not sure if he is in a place good enough to play the Valspar championship next week.
With only a few weeks for the masters in Augusta, the world no 3 said: 'The game feels quite bad'.

Schauffele admitted: '(De) not hitting it close enough, to the fried potatoes, to lose each street, to reach the streets to the missing green. It is quite disgusting, to be completely honest.
When he was asked to evaluate his performance in the first two rounds here, he insisted that “everything” was “really bad.”

“Surprisingly, he feels a bit close, what he is, I know, he is quite sick of saying,” the American continued.
'But I will get a little more cozy in the range and put myself in a decent pattern, and then, as soon as I get to the course, it seems to be a little more crooked.
“I am not sure if it is something related to the configuration or something that I am not doing or I do not do in the course I do in the range, but it feels quite bad.”
This is only the third tournament of the 31 -year -old season when he recovers from a rib injury that kept him out for two months. But Schauffele does not consider an excuse.
“I almost missed the cut of what is a fairly easy course at this time … I think I'm fine with myself,” he said.
His practice is supposed to be limited, to protect his body, but the world no 3 said: “I am about to get that out of the water this afternoon.”
