- Power Say Succession Plan is not guilty of a shocking loss of cakes
- The club suffered the greatest defeat in the 13 seasons of Ken Hinkley as a coach
A Port Adelaide ashamed is still looking for reasons behind its opening flop, but discards its training succession plan as a factor.
The power crashed into a 91 -point defeat against Collingwood in the MCG on Saturday night, the strongest defeat in the 13 seasons of Ken Hinkley as a coach.
Hinkley will give the assistant coach Josh Carr at the end of the season, but Port rejected the suggestions that the succession plan has distracted the club.
“Absolutely not,” said assistant coach Chad Cornes to journalists on Monday.
Power's players and coaches gathered on Monday, but remain lost to explain their mediocre performance against the Uracas.
'Everyone is really disappointed; Embarracted was a word that many of the players raised, coaches too, “said Cornes.

It is definitely not an action that we are proud or we can accept.
'We definitely do not compete at the required level, that is safe.
'Part of the vision is not great … coming to compete at our level for some reason was not there from the beginning and that is the only approach that is coming this week.
'I am not sure of the reason for it. We think we are in a good place entering.
“I can't identify why it looked like that, but the approach is now just about how we compete this weekend.”
Cornes urged players to follow their example and avoid the media after defeat.
“I have made a pact this year so as not to listen to anything or see anything this year because you only take away what is more important,” he said.
'The only important thing is what we are talking about, our values here.

Port and coach Ken Hinkley are still looking for reasons behind their strong loss

Port is now focusing on his next game against Richmond in Adelaide Oval
'People will say what they want … rightly. And after a performance like that, you expect many criticisms.
“I try to tell many of our players, there is no good to listen to the media, I think it does much more damage than good … but most young people these days are everywhere, so it is difficult to avoid.”
The only Port approach was to respond in the field when he received Richmond in Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.
“We have had some of these performances in recent years and usually this group responds very well,” said Cornes.
“Obviously disappointing to happen in the first round, but what I like most about this group, they respond.”
But Cornes said that the power had been inferior in two of its three games this season, a proof defeat against Adelaide and the defeat against Collingwood.
“Two out of three games have not been at the level we needed to be,” he said.
“It's about being more competitive, more ruthless, harder.”
