After his safe return, Castro told journalists that he did not want to die and that his family's thoughts, including his mother, gave him strength.
“It was 95 days. I ate cockroaches, birds, the last thing I ate were the turtles, ”he said. “I have a two -month granddaughter. I clung to her. “
After addressing the press, Castro received medical treatment in Paita before being sent to Lima, the capital of Peru, where he met with his daughter at the Jorge Chávez International Airport, who arrived with a bottle of Pisco, the national drink of Peru.
His niece, Leyla Torres Napa, said the family was anxious to celebrate Castro's birthday, which passed while he was at sea.
“The day of his birth was unique because everything he could eat (while he was at sea) was a small cookie, so it is very important for us to celebrate because, for us, he has reborn,” he told the news environment.
