A former world champion saw his tenure in charge of a Serie A club come to an end after just five months.
Monza has appointed Salvatore Bocchetti as coach, replacing Alessandro Nesta, the Serie A club announced on Monday.
The struggling team sits bottom of the standings, having won just one league match this season.
Nesta was fired on Monday and Bocchetti signed a contract until June 2027 with the club.
Bocchetti's only previous managerial experience was as interim coach at Hellas Verona in 2022.
He lost all six games in charge, including a defeat to Monza, following his temporary promotion from managing the club's youth team.

Nesta, a former Italy international and defender for Lazio and AC Milan in his playing days, took charge of Monza when Raffaele Palladino left for Fiorentina at the end of last season. It was his first managerial position in Serie A.
Monza's 2-1 defeat at home to Juventus on Sunday was their third consecutive defeat and ninth in 17 games. The club has gone nine games without success since its only league victory this campaign in Verona in October.
Monza visits Parma on Saturday, 17th in the standings and five points ahead of Monza.
