Not that Mariah Carey needs more Queen of Christmas cred, but Billboard is giving it to her anyway – her mega holiday hit just broke another record!
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” has remained at the top of the Hot 100 chart for three consecutive weeks, giving it a total of 17 weeks at number one since its release in 1994 – and is now Mariah's longest-running chart. Topper.
On Monday, MC celebrated the success by reposting Billboard's Instagram photo with the news.
She added a caption to the original post that read: “This is amazing!!!! I will never, ever take this for granted. Merry early Christmas!!!!”
Mimi's longest-running number one to date was “One Sweet Day” – her 1995 hit with Boyz II Men – and by the way, “All I Want” is now poised for potential success with even more history.
If it stays at number one for another two weeks – which is entirely possible given the time of year – it would be the longest-running number one of all time. This record is currently held jointly by Lil Nas's “Old Town Road” and Shaboozeyis “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”…both at 19 weeks.
As much as Mariah's hit song is played on the radio and streamed by all of you (you've probably heard it in the last 10 minutes)… it's definitely plausible that she gets the record.
However, if she doesn't make it, there's always next year… when “All I Want” will almost certainly return to the top of the Hot 100.
All hail the queen!
