Adam Smith has opened up about his heartbreaking health problems, after being diagnosed with an “aggressive” form of bladder cancer in 2023.
The 'Voice of Boxing' underwent a CT scan and biopsy which revealed a large tumor on the wall of his bladder.
He was told he was “about four days” from death, as doctors feared his kidneys would fail.
In an emergency operation that lasted six hours, 19 lymph nodes were removed from his body, as well as his bladder and prostate. This was followed by three and a half months of chemotherapy, which led to his miraculous recovery.
Since leaving Sky after 30 years, Smith returned to commentate on his first big TV fight with DAZN, in Oleksandr Usyk's blockbuster showdown against Tyson Fury last week.
“Whether it's calling a four-round fight between two debutants or a world title fight, I love it all and I'm grateful to do that job, if you can really call it a job,” he said. DAZN.

Last year, the veteran commentator recovered from an “aggressive” form of bladder cancer.
After leaving Sky, he kept busy with various independent projects and charitable ventures.
'Cancer was brutal, it has been very difficult to fight this disease.
'I went through very dark times and my body has been through hell.
'My doctors saved me, my family brought me back. I spent three and a half months alone in the hospital undergoing treatment.
'I was very lucky to achieve it. I am very lucky to be alive and have a different perspective on life after what happened to me.
'I wake up in the morning and I'm happy, I'm not stressed. “I'm delighted to have another day.”
Smith now volunteers at a food bank in west London and has also raised money for Blood Cancer UK.
