Conor McGregor has apparently confirmed that he will face social media star Logan Paul in a boxing match to be held in India next year.
It's been more than three years since a serious injury in his trilogy with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 forced the Irishman to suspend his combat sports career.
In that time, the 36-year-old has been repeatedly linked with a return to the octagon, most recently when he was scheduled to face rival Michael Chandler in June before withdrawing due to injury.
However, last week McGregor set social media alight by stating that his return would occur in 2025, but in a ring rather than the cage.
“I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambrani(sic) family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India.” McGregor wrote in X.
The news sparked a backlash among a portion of the combat sports world, including famed boxing promoter Lou DiBella.

The Irishman also shared a social media post from MMA journalist Emmett Glenn announcing the fight, and quoted it on Twitter with emojis of a love heart and the Indian flag.
However, the potential showdown is complicated by the fact that McGregor is still under contract with the UFC, with two fights remaining on the deal he signed before fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018.

McGregor's previous foray into boxing saw him take on Floyd Mayweather in 2017.
However, the most important thing is that on that occasion the UFC acted as co-promoter of the fight and, as a result, supposedly received a portion of its purse.
The news comes just weeks after McGregor. appeared in court in his native Ireland accused of 'raping and brutally beating' Nikita Hand, 35, in a Dublin hotel in 2018.
In November, he was ordered to pay almost €250,000 (£208,000) in damages after a jury found him responsible for assaulting Hand.
The former two-weight UFC champion vehemently denied the allegations and issued a statement on social media indicating that he will seek to appeal the verdict.
He wrote in “I have directed my legal team to appeal the decision.”
