Liam Payne was advised by his psychiatrist just weeks before his death that he needed a “higher level of care” than she could provide.
In a letter filed in the Argentine court and obtained by TMZ, the One Direction star's psychiatrist told the British singer in September that she could no longer offer him psychiatric care.
As the psychiatrist put it…she decided to discontinue Liam's treatment “after careful consideration and assessment”, but advised him to continue with a treatment plan – which included taking medication only as prescribed, avoiding heavy alcohol consumption while taking medication and included weekly therapy, meetings with a primary care doctor, and further testing.
She urged Liam to speak to a therapist regularly to “process his depression and trauma” … and stressed that it was crucial to dealing with these issues.
The therapist provided a list of doctors and rehab centers that she believed could better help Liam.
She added… “Thank you for your understanding and I wish you all the best as you continue your journey towards mental health and wellbeing.”
Liam opened up about his addiction issues in July 2023 after spending 100 days in rehab. In a video update on YouTube at the time, he announced that he had been sober for six months.
The “Strip That Down” singer shared… “I definitely don’t need these things anymore. The party is over.”
However, as we reported, Liam experienced a relapse the following year… which only came to light after the singer's death fell to his death from the third-floor balcony of his hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in October.
As TMZ reported, Liam had cocaine, alcohol and an antidepressant in his system at the time of his death. Five people were accused in connection with his death … including an employee of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel who is accused of supplying drugs to the late star.
