The terrorist who killed 15 people in New Orleans on Wednesday went from his dream of real estate success to a life of utter misery… holed up in a run-down trailer park near Houston that's home to mostly Muslim immigrants, just a few blocks from a mosque.
US Army veteran Shamsud Din Jabbar lived with sheep and goats in his yard and had an ISIS flag attached to the rented Ford F-150 Lightning EV that he used in the ISIS-inspired New Year's Day attack.
The 42-year-old's actions and living conditions stand in stark contrast to the way he presented himself in a 2020 YouTube video for his real estate business, in which he described himself as a trustworthy Texan and 10-year military veteran, who had learned “the meaning of great service.” He received his real estate license in 2019.
Born in Texas, Jabbar served in the Army for more than a decade, including serving as an IT specialist in Afghanistan from February 2009 to January 2010.
According to the Army, he was on active duty from March 2007 to January 2015, then as a reservist until July 2020 and left the service as a staff sergeant.
While serving, Jabbar struggled financially and admitted in an email to his ex-wife's attorney that he had racked up more than $16,000 in credit card debt to cover court fees and the cost of a second home . His then-wife received a restraining order against him, which, among other things, prohibited violence and other forms of abuse.
In 2012, his first wife successfully sued him for support for their two daughters, providing further evidence of his financial difficulties.
As we reported, Jabbar plowed his pickup truck into a huge crowd on Bourbon Street and shot two officers before being shot. 16 remain in hospital, including 8 in intensive care.
NY Post was the first to report on Jabbar's living situation.
