Luke Littler completed his destiny by winning the World Championship last week, and he's still almost a fortnight away from turning 18.
It was a triumph more than 16 years in the making, ever since his mother, Lisa, put a magnetic dart in his hand when he was just 18 months old.
As Littler hit a double 16 and raised his arms after sweeping Michael van Gerwen, it was only fitting that his parents and one of his brothers were at Alexandra Palace to share his special moment. After all, it has been a family effort to take him to the top of the sport.
Growing up in Warrington, northwest England, Littler's talent was discovered at an early age by his taxi driver father, Anthony, 43.
At the age of nine, Luke had joined St Helens Dart Academy, where he was able to play against the best the local area had to offer, and Anthony was happy to take time off work to take his son to the tournaments. But there was a balance: Luke had to keep striving for perfection.
Anthony's treatment of Luke came to a head when he first played Nathan Aspinall, a former World Matchplay Champion, at the age of 12. Aspinall remembers seeing that Anthony was being hard on his son and reveals that he confronted Littler Sr after narrowly beating Luke.

Luke's rival Nathan Aspinall (right) revealed he once confronted Anthony after he was “very critical” of his son.
“The first time I met Luke, I think it was in Chester at a tournament and I beat him 4-3,” The Asp said.
'I think I was four! No, I was about 12 years old and wow, I thought, “Who is this kid?”
'I remember seeing his father with him and he criticized him a lot because he had lost.
“I was thinking, dude, he's 12 and I was top 16 in the world at the time. I said, 'Give him a break.'
'His dad said, “No, he needs to learn.”
“That tough talk over the years has probably produced one of the best players in our sport. It's amazing and what more can you say?'
Aspinall now recognizes that Anthony's upbringing has been worth it. He was able to give up taxi driving while Luke skipped his GCSEs to concentrate on darts and became a world champion.
It was also notable that Luke was constantly looking at his father during his ending with Van Gerwen.
He later explained that Anthony's calm personality helped calm the nerves he had in the biggest game of his life.
Luke's father, Anthony (right), is rarely seen smiling during his son's games.
Anthony's tough love paid off when he watched his son win his first world title last week.
“My dad seemed very calm throughout the game,” Luke told Mail Sport.
'When I was looking at him, he didn't seem nervous. “So I knew myself that if he is not nervous then I just need to play with freedom.”
Luke's career earnings have now surpassed £1.5million following his £500,000 payday for winning the World Championship, and he has a lot to thank his father for.
But it may also be that Anthony's tough love combined with a softer approach from Luke's mother has proven to be the perfect balance.
Luke's mother, Lisa, 40, is a retail worker who previously worked at Yankee Candle and is always seen giving Luke a warm hug when he walks onto the stage before his matches.
Sometimes it is also necessary after matches, and an example of this was after Luke's first match at this year's World Championship.
Luke was overcome with emotion after beating fellow Englishman Ryan Meikle, and his post-match television interview lasted a few seconds before he began to cry.
Shortly after, he headed towards his family, where he was seen hugging his mother, who dried his and her tears.

Lisa comforted Luke and wiped away her own tears after he won his first match at this year's World Championships.
Just under two weeks later, it was no surprise that Luke wanted to share the moment of becoming world champion for the first time with Anthony and Lisa as they posed for photos with the Sid Waddell Trophy alongside Luke's older brother Leon on stage major.
León has been enjoying his brother's success since Friday night and had two reasons to celebrate over the weekend as he turned 21.
He couldn't help but poke fun at his younger brother, who is not yet old enough to have his first pint, while speaking to the media.
Asked how Luke would celebrate, Leon told The Sun: “You can't do much with him, can you?” He is 17 years old.
“He'll go out, relax with his game and maybe order some food.” I'll do the celebration for him!'
Luke was seen handing a large wad of cash to Leon outside Ally Pally on Friday night, and that could become a regular occurrence as the 17-year-old's sensation is likely to go from strength to strength.
Then there's Luke's older sister, who could soon become a star in her own right.
Caitlin, 22, is often at her brother's side when he travels to his games, but she has also amassed 27,000 followers on TikTok with glimpses of her gregarious lifestyle.
She previously admitted to bleaching her natural brown hair and filling her lips to achieve her desired look and has been tipped for reality TV stardom.
Culture and brand expert Nick Ede previously told The Sun that Luke and Caitlin could become the 'next Furies' following the success of the Netflix show. At home with the furies which follows former heavyweight champion boxer Tyson Fury and his family.

Luke and Caitlin are considered to be the 'next Furies' after the success of At home with the furies which follows Tyson Fury (left), Paris Fury (right) and their large family.
For now, though, Caitlin is happy to play the role of supportive sister and posts regularly on social media about Luke's accomplishments.
She took to Facebook last May when Luke won the Premier League Darts title to declare herself the “proudest sister of all time”.
Caitlin wrote: 'I actually have no words, what a birthday present! The proudest sister ever.
“Everyone is probably getting bored of me sharing posts about Luke, but I can't help it being too good.”
Reality TV could be on the horizon for Luke after becoming an unstoppable force on the oche.
He needs to make sure he doesn't become complacent, but with his father pushing him to improve even more and his mother and siblings by his side to support him, he has every chance of dominating the sport for years to come.
