Mel's 6,500-square-foot residence was burned down in the Pacific Palisades Fire, which was fueled by 100-mile-per-hour wind gusts… all while Mel was out of town. The actor/director spoke on News Nation Thursday night about the disaster that occurred while he was working Joe Rogan's podcast.
He says he felt “uncomfortable knowing my neighborhood was burning” while speaking to Rogan. He says the Santa Ana winds had just picked up on Tuesday as he headed to Texas – but how he described the devastation remains to be seen.

MG says: “You could put it in an urn” … referring to the remains of his house – and looking at the video he shot of the place, you have to say his description is spot on is!
He says another fire broke out within 200 yards of the house last month, but this time the winds created the perfect firestorm that he says destroyed most of the homes in his neighborhood.
Mel says his incredible positivity comes from knowing his loved ones were not harmed in the fire, which reportedly killed at least 10 people. Remarkably, a chicken coop on his property actually survived—or as he put it, “They weren’t fried chickens.”
He lived in the house for about 15 years and says he lost a lot of “cool stuff” but knows he can replace it all. Despite the fire risk, he plans to renovate and rebuild the property “with great sea views.”
As for whether he'll live there, Mel jokes: “Hey, does anyone want to buy some land?”
