After a disappointing season for the Dallas Cowboys, the organization and head coach Mike McCarthy are expected to begin talks about a new contract.
McCarthy's current contract expires next Tuesday, and owner Jerry Jones has yet to commit to him moving on after the team went 7-10 and missed the playoffs.
However, according to NFL Network's Tom PelisseroThe parties are expected to begin contract negotiations on Friday and “remain open” to working together.
That development comes after several days of talks between McCarthy and the franchise, although no formal negotiations have yet taken place.
Pelissero noted that there are still “other issues” to resolve and that most of McCarthy's assistants could take on the next jobs starting next Tuesday.
Dallas previously rejected the Chicago Bears' request to interview McCarthy for their head coaching job.
The Cowboys are now expected to move forward with contract negotiations for Mike McCarthy.
McCarthy has gone 49-35 in five seasons with Dallas and has never reached the NFC Championship game in that span.
However, he has also been without quarterback Dak Prescott for long stretches in two separate seasons, as the quarterback played in just eight games this year after suffering a season-ending hamstring injury.
