A Florida police officer has resigned amid the investigation into a wild incident in which he drove his patrol car into a civilian's vehicle while distracted by porn on his cell phone.
Bodycam footage shows a Lake County sheriff's deputy Tristan Macomber He crashes into another vehicle, his airbag deploys upon impact – moments later he is outside the car, picks up the phone from the ground, casually throws it on the seat and then looks for the other driver.
WESH
An internal report two weeks after the November accident alleged that Macomber initially attributed the accident to his brakes locking when the car in front stopped in front of a school bus.
It turns out Macomber was doing something much more visual — and inappropriate. Investigators checked his vehicle's dashcam and found he was clearly distracted and holding a cell phone in the seconds before the crash.
When first interviewed, Macomber claimed he was scrolling through text messages in a group chat with other deputies at the time of the crash. But he later admitted that he had actually viewed pornographic material on his personal phone.
Macomber committed three policy violations: lying about the incident, using an electronic device for prohibited content, and providing evidence that he was not wearing a seatbelt during the accident.
