Liverpool manager Arne Slot has had his say on David Moyes' incredible return as Everton manager.
It has been an eventful week at Goodison Park, with Everton sacking Sean Dyche on Thursday just hours before their FA Cup win against Peterborough.
This was followed by the announcement on Saturday that Moyes had returned to Everton, which he previously managed between 2002 and 2013.
Moyes received much praise for his work during his initial spell at Everton and is now tasked with helping the Toffees avoid relegation.
Dyche was sacked with Everton 16th in the Premier League, having managed just three wins in their 19 league games so far this season.
However, Slot was quick to praise Dyche and stated that it is a shame to see him go.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot gave his opinion on David Moyes' return to Everton
Moyes made a sensational return to Everton after the club decided to sack Sean Dyche.
Slot suggested he felt Everton's decision to sack Dyche was a bit harsh.
Ahead of Liverpool's FA Cup match at home against Accrington Stanley, Slot was asked his opinion on Everton's managerial change.
Slot first reflected on Dyche's tenure and suggested that he felt his dismissal was harsh.
Slot told ITV: “Firstly, it's always a shame when a manager has to go and that's what Sean Dyche had to do.”
“I'm not an Everton fan, I was a bit surprised because I think they had very good results lately, with some draws that probably no one expected.”
Slot described Moyes' return to Everton as “special” for both Everton and football in general.
He said: “David Moyes coming in is always special because of what he did for Everton, but I think overall for the game.” He also had success at West Ham, where I think they won the Conference League under John Heitinga, who is my assistant at the moment.
“It's good to have him back, but it's always a shame when someone who, in my opinion, did very well is now out of a job.”
After the opening match between Everton and Liverpool was postponed on December 7 due to bad weather, the rivals have yet to meet twice in the Premier League this season.
Slot believes Moyes' return to charge is special for both Everton and football in general.
Mail Sport revealed on Friday that Moyes was expected to sign terms that will run until June 2027.
Since leaving Everton in 2013, Moyes has had spells in charge of Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland, as well as two spells at West Ham.
Moyes guided Everton to a fourth-place finish in the Premier League in the 2004-05 campaign, which saw them reach the Champions League play-offs. Everton also reached the FA Cup final in 2009, where they lost to Chelsea.
The first match of Moyes' second spell as Everton manager will be the home league fixture against Aston Villa on Wednesday.
