Trent Alexander-Arnold scored a stunning goal in Liverpool's FA Cup clash against Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
With captain Virgil van Dijk rested as part of a rotated Reds squad, Alexander-Arnold was awarded the armband for the third round match.
The Premier League leaders quickly took the initiative against their League Two rivals, and Diogo Jota put them ahead in the 29th minute.
The visitors defended resolutely for much of the first half but once again found themselves beaten after Alexander-Arnold doubled his team's lead on the stroke of half-time.
After receiving the ball from Dominik Szoboszlai on the edge of the penalty area, the defender unleashed a shot that left Stanley's on-loan Everton goalkeeper Billy Crellin helpless as the ball sailed into the top corner.
The strike comes just days after the 26-year-old was widely criticized for his performance when Liverpool drew 2-2 at Manchester United.
Speaking at half-time, Reds legend Robbie Fowler insisted the goal will give Alexander-Arnold a confidence boost.
'There is a lot to do. There's an area where he can hit the ball and he hits it,” Fowler said on ITV.
“I think that goal will give him a bit of momentum. Trent has been busy, he has been a problem. Liverpool have control of the wide areas.”
