Harry Kane has revealed the lengths to which Wayne Rooney went to help him adapt to the senior England team, praising his efforts as “incredibly kind”.
Kane became the Three Lions' all-time record goalscorer after scoring against Italy in March 2023, surpassing Rooney's long-standing total in the process.
He now has 69 goals in 103 international matches since making his debut in 2015 and has made no secret that he wants to score 100 before retiring.
Rooney was on the pitch when Kane came off the bench to score his first goal for England in the 4-0 win against Lithuania at Wembley, having needed just 79 seconds and three touches of the ball to open his account.
Last year, Rooney claimed Kane has now cemented his place as the greatest player England has ever produced and hailed him as “incredible”.

“I remember when Wayne Rooney received an award for most goals scored for England, he said he hoped I would be next,” Kane said.
'I thought it was incredibly kind of him. He's Wayne Rooney, one of the best strikers in history, he didn't need to say a word to me.
“You know, Wayne was the captain when I started in 2015, and he welcomed me personally, explained a lot of things to me about what it meant to represent England, how it would change my life forever.
“Obviously it helped me understand this stage and today I in turn take advantage of it to integrate the new talents that arrive here.”
Kane was crowned England captain by Gareth Southgate ahead of the 2018 World Cup and has often held nothing back when disappointed with the team's culture.
Last year, he issued a warning to his teammates after criticizing several players who walked away from international duty ahead of Nations League matches.
“You know, when I have something to say to the guys, I say it without a problem,” Kane added. 'They know it, I have never had problems saying things clearly.
“But, obviously, I'm not the one who talks all the time, the one who shouts at others in training, in games or in the locker room.
