A Texas man is in big trouble for alleged stalking Caitlin Clark … after officials said he contacted the WNBA superstar with threats and sexually explicit messages on social media – and then drove to Indianapolis.
55 years old Michael Lewis was taken into custody in Indianapolis on Sunday and charged with stalking (a Level 5 felony) … after police said they traced his activities to an area hotel.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says officers first made contact with Lewis last week … and he downplayed the nature of the messages – claiming they were more fantasy than reality. He also stated that he was only in Indianapolis on vacation.
Even after he was asked to stop, officials say the messages continued… prompting law enforcement to take quick action.
Clark herself expressed her concern when speaking to police, according to court documents obtained by TMZ Sports …and said she even adjusted her public appearance schedule out of fear for her safety.
Several alleged messages from Lewis to Clark were also included in the documents… and they are disturbing.
Some of them mention being near CC's residence… and Lewis reportedly said, “I drive around your house three times a day.”
“I’ll get tickets. I'm sitting behind the bench… and I'm going to pick it up… take care of me… calm down Michael… you're stuck in the snow,” said another.
Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears addressed the matter in a statement Monday… saying, “It takes a lot of courage for women to come forward in these cases, which is why many don't. In doing so, the victim creates a problem.” Example for all women who deserve to live and work in India without the risk of sexual violence.”
Officers also filed a stay-away order and a request for bail above standard bail.
A Level 5 felony is punishable by up to six years and a maximum fine of $10,000.
