- The stars announced their engagement last month.
- De Minaur was seeded eighth in his home Grand Slam
Alex de Minaur received a withering response from his fiancée Katie Boulter when the Australian Grand Slam hope posted a photo of him flexing his muscles on court, just after he narrowly avoided taking much more revealing photos for a nude calendar.
The 25-year-old treated his followers to an image of him with his biceps rippling in a sleeveless top on Monday night accompanied by the caption “Preparation over… It's about time,” with other Aussie stars including Alexi Popyrin and Matt. Ebden gives him the thumbs up.
However, Boulter was having none of it, writing: “Stop trying to catch the thirst, you have a fiancé,” referring to slang for a social media post that aims to draw people to them.
The hilarious response was a hit with tennis fans, who laughed at his “wicked” response or joked that he should let him continue posting photos of his physique.
On Monday, De Minaur explained how close he came to putting out his entire team for a calendar as part of his participation in an NFL fantasy football league.
The eighth seed at the Australian Open and some friends, including British tennis star Cam Norrie, compete against each other to see who can pick the best imaginary team, and the contestant with the worst result will have to choose between punishments.
Alex de Minaur was taken down a notch or two by his fiancée Katie Boulter when he posted this photo on Instagram.
Boulter delighted tennis fans with his hilarious response to their meatloaf photo.
The Australian Open eighth seed and Boulter closed out 2024 on a wonderful note when they announced their engagement.
“This is high-stakes fantasy football. “It's pretty brutal,” de Minaur said in a question-and-answer session in Melbourne, according to The age.
'Last year we changed it so you can do a marathon (if you come last) or you can do a nude calendar.
“I was very close to losing, but I didn't lose.”
Competition organizers were worried about the effect running a marathon would have on big names like De Minaur and Norrie, so they added the rude option, according to the publication: Australian player Luke Saville chose the race when he came last.
Boulter recently spoke about being accepted as an honorary Australian since the couple announced their engagement in December.
“I feel like I've already felt a lot more love here, even more than last year,” the 28-year-old said.
'Being in Sydney (for the United Cup), which is his hometown, where he was born, was the first time I played tennis there. Just going out on the court and listening to the crowd really helped me.
'I felt at home and comfortable. I'm usually the type of person who doesn't like going to new places. I felt very comfortable from the beginning when I was there and that was entirely due to them and how they treated me.
“It makes a big difference.”
Both stars have had favorable draws at the Australian Open, where both begin their campaigns on Tuesday.
De Minaur is often shown on his fiancée's Instagram enjoying a pub lunch or a walk in the countryside, and Boulter was asked if he had a favorite local delicacy in the run-up to the Australian Open.
“Definitely not Vegemite,” she replied. 'I don't know about you guys, but I'm not sure that's my thing. You can say TimTams, I love a TimTam.
'I'm always picking up accents. I don't know if I have an Australian touch here or there.
'I just love the culture. I really enjoy coming here every year. Obviously being around someone like Alex, so hardworking. He loves his country, he lives and dies by his Davis Cup number. I think that has definitely rubbed off on me.
De Minaur begins his Open campaign on Tuesday night when he takes on Botic van de Zandschlup on the Rod Laver Arena, with the draw ahead opening up for him after the shock exit of Stefanos Tsitsipas on Monday.
Boulter will face Rebecca Marino on Tuesday afternoon, as her favorable draw puts her in a good position to advance to the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career.
