Jurgen Klopp talks about why he first quit his 'intense' job at Liverpool as he plays the company's top man, drinking cans of Red Bull at the controversial launch of his new role.

Jurgen Klopp opened up for the first time about his departure from Liverpool after taking part in a press conference on Tuesday.

After agreeing to take on the role of Global Director of Football at Red Bull in October, Klopp has officially started and it promises to be a busy first couple of months for the German.

As part of his first duties in charge, Klopp sat down for his first press conference on Tuesday afternoon, where he spoke about leaving Liverpool last year.

'When you're in the job for 25 years, it's super intense. The only thing is that I am a very curious person and I could no longer feed that,” he said at a press conference on Tuesday.

“It was just game after game after game after game. You maintain a specific level and to be honest I wasn't very happy with that. I always want to try to learn new things and when I found out about the position I felt like that's what I would do.

'I no longer have to improve the game in individual places, but I want to improve football around the world. “We will no longer prepare a new game every week, but will work on the bigger picture.”

Since leaving Anfield, Liverpool have had success under replacement Arne Slot, but the Dutchman has several concerns.

In particular, Liverpool have three key players – Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk – all on expired deals.

Although Reds fans would have hoped the club could tie them down to a contract extension, that looks increasingly unlikely as the days go by.

Egyptian winger Salah even came forward recently and insisted it would be his last season at the club as negotiations over a new deal failed to progress.

Speaking about Salah's possible departure, Klopp said: “I hope he stays. He is Liverpool's best striker in modern times, and he had many greats. A fantastic player, a fantastic professional. Absolutely exceptional. The best ambassador Egypt could have.

Klopp officially began working as Red Bull's global football director in October.

The German was in the crowd on Saturday to watch French second division side Paris FC as part of his new role with Red Bull.

Among his tasks is to turn Paris FC into a leading club in France under the ownership of France's richest family, the Arnaults of the LVMH luxury empire.

The family's acquisition of the second division club includes the incorporation of the energy drink giant as a minority shareholder, which is where Klopp fits in to provide his strategic vision.

“I see my role primarily as a mentor to the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs,” Klopp said in October. “But ultimately, I am part of a unique, innovative and forward-thinking organization.”
