Jamie Carragher has urged Liverpool to “buy a defender” following their 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.
Arne Slot's side extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points, although that figure could be reduced to four when Arsenal face Tottenham on Wednesday. The Gunners will have played one more game.
They are getting closer to the finish line in their bid to win their second Premier League title in Slot's first season in charge, but have now drawn two games in a row.
Liverpool have scored by far the most goals in the league this season (48, at least six more than any other team), but their defensive record has slipped of late, having conceded seven goals in their last five league games. Premier League.
Virgil van Dijk remains the heart of the Reds' defense, with fellow starter Ibrahima Konate recently returning from injury. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson remain first choice at full-back.
But Chris Wood was the last man to expose the backline when he played on the left before scoring on Tuesday, and Carragher took to social media to call for reinforcements in his former team's defence.
“Liverpool should have won tonight, but they continue to create great chances even in games they don't win,” Carragher wrote in X. “But the defensive solidity they had at the start of the season has disappeared. We always look likely to concede.

It seems unlikely that Liverpool will turn to the transfer market this month, at least not for anything major, as Slot has cover in all three defensive positions.
