Serena Williams is savagely attacked by golf fans for her appearance at Tiger Woods' TGL: “I'd rather have a root canal”

Serena Williams swapped the tennis court for the world of indoor golf on Tuesday night, but enraged golf fans felt she should have stayed in her lane.

The tennis legend, along with her husband Alexis Ohanian and sister Venus, headlines the star-studded property of Los Angeles Golf Club, one of six teams competing at TGL.

And the 23-time Grand Slam winner was in the house to watch her team take on Tiger Woods and his Jupiter Links teammates in the second match of the golf simulator league's inaugural season.

The 43-year-old was seen cheering on her team of Collin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala and Justin Rose inside the Los Angeles VIP suite at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach, Florida.

But midway through the 15-hole showdown, Williams traded his front-row seat for a spot in the booth.

Williams joined ESPN's Matt Barrie on the network's broadcast, providing commentary for two holes.

However, golf fans were not very impressed with the retired tennis star's appearance and many brutally criticized his lack of golf knowledge.

“Serena Williams knows next to nothing about golf #TGL #LAGC,” one fan posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Serena Williams has no idea what's going on,” another agreed, before adding, “It's really amazing how dumb Serena Williams sounds.”

However, one seemed to find the funny side, writing: “Serena Williams has no idea what's going on and I love it.”

Others called for Williams to be removed from their television screens as they continued to criticize his comments.

“Someone get Serena Williams off the damn TGL microphone,” said one social media user. “She doesn't have the slightest idea what she's saying.”

“Get Serena Williams off this stream,” another repeated, before a third furious user chimed in and said, “So Serena Williams is single-handedly ruining TGL.”

Others claimed that the tennis sensation was single-handedly destroying the project and their enjoyment of the match.

“Serena Williams looks like she would prefer to have a root canal,” one fan account stated.

“Serena Williams on the TGL broadcast is killing me,” another chimed in.

“There is literally no one worse than Serena Williams that they could have had on this broadcast,” wrote a third.

“This interview with Serena Williams could have killed TGL before it even took two steps,” another said of Woods and Rory McIlroy's fledgling company.

Williams is just one member of a star-studded fleet of investors backing the latest venture to revolutionize the world of golf.

The likes of NBA star Steph Curry and Liverpool bosses Fenway Sports Group have also joined the six teams' various properties: Atlanta Drive, New York, Los Angeles, The Bay, Boston Common and Jupiter Links.

Meanwhile, the NBA's Antetokounmpo siblings Giannis and Thanasis, Alex Morgan, Servando Carrasco and Michelle Wie West have joined Williams at the helm of Los Angeles Golf Club.
