Chelsea activate Trevoh Chalobah's clause to withdraw the centre-back from Crystal Palace's loan, despite including him in their 'bomb squad' just five months ago.

Chelsea have activated their option to recall defender Trevoh Chalobah from Crystal Palace, just five months after including him in their 'bomb squad'.

The 25-year-old joined the Eagles on a season-long loan and has made 14 appearances for the club so far this campaign.

Chalobah will not be available for Crystal Palace's Premier League match against Leicester City on Wednesday night.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was asked about the possibility of recalling Chalobah earlier this month but gave no indication whether the Blues would exercise their option.

“I already said in the last press conference that he is a Palace player and I think it is disrespectful,” Maresca said.

“The reason I think all the managers always say the same thing is because he is a Palace player.

“If I start talking about Trev, it's not respect for (Oliver) Glasner, if Oliver starts talking about our players then it's probably not good for me.

'He's a Palace player. He was here with us working very well in the preseason and then he left. “Now he is a Palace player.”
