Newcastle set to accept Atlanta United's £10m bid for disgraced winger Miguel Almirón… and Magpies unlikely to sign replacement despite Harvey Barnes injury

Newcastle are set to accept Atlanta United's bid totaling £10million for Miguel Almirón and a move is now expected to be finalized, Mail Sport understands.

However, the club have rejected a £6million-plus bid from Fenerbahce for defender Lloyd Kelly and that deal is less likely to progress.

Almiron, 30, is said to be interested in returning to his former club and talks will accelerate this week, ending a six-year stay on Tyneside.

But we understand that Newcastle are unlikely to sign a replacement and that would leave the team short in wide areas, given Harvey Barnes' injury. He faces a month out due to a thigh strain.

Kelly, meanwhile, is the subject of interest from Fenerbahce, but the Turkish club would have to return with an offer well above their initial proposal for Newcastle to consider a sale, and the club does not expect that to happen.

Eddie Howe's side are in fourth place in the Premier League after a sixth successive win during Wednesday's 3-0 win over Wolves.

Almirón has scored 30 goals in 222 games for Newcastle and has been a regular starter in recent seasons.

However, he has fallen out of favor this term, and Howe prefers to use Jacob Murphy in front of him on the right wing.

Almirón, who is contracted to Newcastle until June 2026, has been limited to just one league start this season.

However, he still remained in Newcastle's matchday squad throughout the campaign and came off the bench in his side's 3-0 win over Wolves on Wednesday.
