Manchester City are closing in on a replacement for Kyle Walker, who looks set to leave the club this month.

Mail Sport exclusively revealed that Pep Guardiola had left the 32-year-old at home ahead of the 2-2 draw with Brentford after the defender asked to leave the club.

Both Milan clubs are competing for his services and Mail Sport understands any loan deal could end in a two-year permanent deal once concluded.

The imminent departure of a first-team starter requires a replacement and, according to Sky ItalyCity are approaching Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso.

The 24-year-old, who has won 13 caps for the Azzurri, has been a mainstay in Thiago Motta's side this season. His only absence from the lineup was due to an ankle injury before the December draw with Venezia.

Cambiaso has primarily played as the Old Lady's left back, although he is also capable of playing on the right side of the defense, as well as in more offensive positions on that flank.

The report out of Italy claims that City are preparing a bid of between £50m and £55m for the defender.

If City manage to complete the deal, it would be another arrival at the Etihad in the January transfer window as the club look to salvage their disappointing season.

On Tuesday, City agreed a £29.4 million deal with Palmeiras to sign centre-back Vitor Reis.

The Brazilian defender will immediately join Pep Guardiola's team instead of staying in Brazil for the Club World Cup.

The signing of the 19-year-old, who can also play at right-back, provides further impetus amid Walker's attempts to leave the club.

In addition, City are also working to finalize the price of Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush this week and will sign Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov.

Khusanov, the 20-year-old Uzbekistan international, missed Sunday's win in Le Havre as City worked to close the move.

The central defender, who has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract, needs to undergo a medical and obtain a work permit before being officially confirmed as Guardiola's first signing in a busy January transfer window.

Mail Sport reported last month that the Premier League champions were hopeful of landing three or four new recruits across all areas of a team dealing with an ongoing injury crisis.

Marmoush had become a target in the forward areas and the 25-year-old can operate anywhere in the front three or as a complement to top scorer Erling Haaland.
