Due to toe and neck problems, Sharpe only appeared in 112 games… but he still put up amazing numbers. He caught 595 passes for 8,134 yards…and recorded 65 touchdowns. He also earned All-Pro honors three times and was a Pro Bowl selection five times.
During our interview with Favre, he called Sharpe (who's Shannon(s brother) “unprotectable” and “unbelievable”.
“He wasn't the fastest,” said Sharpe's former quarterback, “he wasn't the biggest, but he was by far the smartest – maybe the smartest football player I ever played with. And that says a lot.”
Sharpe is currently one of five finalists competing for up to three spots in this year's HOF class. In an ironic twist, his old coach said, Mike Holmgrenis actually one of the four others the committee will vote on.
Favre said he was confident both would get in… and told us: “To be there with all those guys would just be great. It would be a great time.”
The entire Class of 25 will be announced during Super Bowl week in February.
