Jhon Durán was fined £15,000 but escaped a longer suspension for kicking a water bottle following his red card at Newcastle.
The Aston Villa striker received a three-match ban for trampling Newcastle defender Fabian Schar on Boxing Day but risked more time on the sidelines for his reaction to the red card.
The disciplinary panel considered applying a “sports sanction” before deciding that a fine would be sufficient, considering Durán's good disciplinary record before that match.
Durán was again available for Villa's 1–0 win at Everton on 15 January, but was an unused substitute, with Ollie Watkins, his rival for the centre-forward role, scoring the only goal.
Durán will hope to regain his place in the team for the trip to Arsenal on Saturday, while Villa will also face a crucial Champions League match in Monaco three days later.

Durán reacted furiously to his dismissal (pictured) and kicked a water bottle as he left the field.
“We can play with Watkins, with Durán, with both,” insisted coach Unai Emery. “Of course, he was out for two weeks, without playing. He is training normally and is in the squad. “Hopefully we can recover his performance quickly, like before he received the red card.”
Villa, meanwhile, are expected to press ahead with defensive signings after concluding talks to sell Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce for around £10m.
Villa are interested in signing Sevilla defender Loic Bade, who spent a brief spell at Nottingham Forest in the 2022-23 campaign, as well as Oscar Mingueza, who started his career at Barcelona but is now at Celta Vigo.
