When a ski lift collapsed in a ski resort in Spain on Saturday, a large number of people were injured, some seriously, as videos of the aftermath show.
Of the dozens injured, at least nine people reportedly suffered serious injuries… while dozens more were trapped on the damaged chairlift at the resort in Spain's Aragon region.
Shortly after local reports were published, several videos were shared on social media showing the injured scattered on the slopes among what appeared to be scattered poles and ski boots as rescuers tried to get to them.
A picture from the area showed, from the left, what looked like a huge gear completely dislodged from its holder! The exact cause of the disorder is not clear.
A witness told state television broadcaster TVE: “It's as if a cable had broken, the chairs had tipped over and people had been thrown down.”
The rescue workers who responded included a helicopter, which shot harrowing video of the horrific aftermath.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said he was “shocked by the news of the accident” … adding: “Our full condolences go out to the injured and their families.”
