Four-time Stanley Cup champion Marcel Bonin has died at the age of 93.
“Just a little word to tell you that Marcel played his last game today,” Bonin's daughter, France, said in a message to her former team, the Montreal Canadiens, on Sunday.
“He died peacefully this morning, surrounded by his family.”
Bonin, a forward, won the Stanley Cup with the Detroit Red Wings in 1955, then with the Canadiens in 1958, 1959 and 1960.
He played 454 games in total between 1952 and 1962, scoring 272 points with 97 goals and 175 assists. Bonin also played for the Boston Bruins during his career.
Bonin lived an eccentric life. He once fought a bear at a circus in Quebec to try to win $1,000 and occasionally ate glass for the enjoyment of his teammates.
