Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was criticized for his poor error against Wolves with Jamie Carragher declaring him good enough for a “bottom half” club.

Sanchez missed a Matheus Cunha corner in first-half stoppage time, allowing Matt Doherty to score the equalizer from close range.

The Blues took the lead thanks to Tosin Adarabioyo, the defender who finished after a deflection and looked on cruise control at Stamford Bridge.

But the visitors reacted at the beginning of the break after winning a corner from the right, which Cunha deflected towards the near post.

At first, Sánchez seemed to have caught the cross with ease, but within a few strange seconds, he proceeded to lob it back into the danger zone.

That gave Doherty the chance to pounce and he pushed the leveler under the stopper. At half-time, Carragher was unimpressed with the error.

“Every set piece is the same now,” Carragher said on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football. 'People try to block the goalkeeper. Push someone away so they now have time to deal with it. I should just punch him.

'A corner came, just before the break and after this, and he rejected the blow. That's exactly what I should have done for that goal. He is a Premier League goalkeeper.

'It's not a fault, there's nothing there. We keep getting signs, as I think we've always known, that Sanchez is a Premier League goalkeeper, but maybe for a team in the bottom half of the table, not the top half.

Sanchez's error was the fourth that led to a goal this season and Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit was also unimpressed during Sky's coverage.

“I don't know why he didn't hit the ball,” Petit said. “He tried to control it, catch it, but he should have hit the ball easily. He was under pressure.

'He was so close to his own line. There was a risk. Look how many players there are. Everyone fights for the ball, trying to protect their own goalkeeper. If you want to be sure, to have guarantees of it, just hit the ball.'

However, Chelsea recovered quickly after the break, with goals from Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke giving them a comfortable 3-1 victory.
