Motherwell have prepared for an improved bid for Lennon Miller from Serie A side Udinese after rejecting the initial £2.5m offer.

Motherwell are preparing for a second bid from Udinese for coveted midfielder Lennon Miller.

The Serie A side opened the bidding for the 18-year-old with an offer of £2.5m. The Fir Park board immediately rejected it, but the Italians are expected to return to the table with another proposal.

Miller burst onto the scene aged just 16 and has captained Motherwell on a regular basis.

Currently sidelined with an ankle injury ahead of the New Year, the teenager has attracted interest from clubs across the continent.

The German Eintracht Frankfurt has carried out several exploratory tests, but has not yet presented a firm offer. Restrictions on financial fair play have deterred others from participating in the bidding.

Motherwell are yet to put a firm price on their valuable asset but want more than the £3.5m raised by Celtic for David Turnbull.

Son of former Scotland striker Lee, Under-21 international Miller has made 19 league appearances for Well this season.

In November, Motherwell chairman Kirk MacMillan claimed the club was in no rush to sell the midfielder.

“Lennon has done incredibly well since coming into the first team, he's obviously captained the club now in the last few games, and he also did it at Hampden in the semi-final.

“I think ultimately it's about Lennon's growth journey and we want him to stay at Motherwell for as long as possible.

“It's great to see him every Saturday, he excites the fans and people are very excited to interact with him and his journey in football.”
