Manchester United have submitted an initial bid of around £23m for Lecce full-back Patrick Dorgu following talks in Milan on Tuesday.
United's director of football negotiations Matt Hargreaves met with agents Frank Trimboli and Leon Angel, as well as Lecce president Sticchi Damiani.
Lecce did not come into the transfer window with the intention of selling. “We explained to Manchester that our will at the moment is to try to keep our personnel unchanged, keeping all the greats, especially Dorgu,” Damiani said.
The left-back is one of the options United have been exploring to strengthen their squad and manager Ruben Amorim is ready to give Antony the green light to join Real Betis on loan.
Dorgu, 20, stands 6ft 2in, has four international caps for Denmark and can also play as a winger.
United had initially targeted Nuno Mendes at Paris Saint-Germain, but it was always a difficult deal due to the expense. Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez was another of those being considered, but he would not be sold cheaply either.
Manchester United have submitted a bid worth around £23m for Lecce full-back Patrick Dorgu, but the club are reluctant to sell him.
Ruben Amorim is keen to strengthen his ranks as he looks to overcome a poor run of form at Old Trafford.
It is understood that Antony's move for Erik ten Hag is on the way to Real Betis, but details of the deal are still to be finalised.
Amorim is eager to strengthen his options before releasing players when United face Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday and even in the FA Cup.
The terms for Antony's departure to Betis have been firmly agreed, but there are still details to be finalized as Amorim assesses what he needs to work on going forward.
Dorgu's contract with Lecce of Serie A expires in 2029.
He began his youth career at Copenhagen-based Husum Boldklub before moving to Nordsjaelland's youth academy.
In 2022 he signed for Lecce and a year later he was promoted to the senior team, making his debut in August 2023 in the Coppa Italia.
Since then he has established himself as a regular in the first team. He has started all but one of Lecce's league games this season, with the one he missed coming due to a red card.
In September he made his debut for Denmark against Switzerland and scored his first international goal with his first touch after 42 seconds.
