It sure seems like the Tennessee Titans won't address their biggest need at quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in April's NFL Draft.
Titans president of football operations Chad Brinker dropped a major hint that Tennessee will select Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter first overall.
Brinker made the prediction at new general manager Mike Borgonzi's introductory news conference on Wednesday, saying, “We won't pass up a generational talent with the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft.”
Hunter is viewed as a two-way generational talent in this draft class, and is the consensus highest-rated player this year.
While most NFL teams would be happy to add someone of Hunter's quality, the Titans were expected to take a quarterback with the first overall pick.
As evidenced by the success of the Washington Commanders, who selected Jayden Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick last year and spurned their run to the NFC Championship Game, every team knows that winning in the NFL is impossible without a solid quarterback.
Travis Hunter could be selected first overall in April's NFL Draft, and the Titans will have that pick.
Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan might not have a rookie quarterback after all
Tennessee has now shown long-term confidence in Will Levis, who was the team's starter for most of this season before being benched for backup Mason Rudolph.
Hunter's Colorado teammate Shedeur Sanders and Miami quarterback Cam Ward are believed to be the top two signal-callers in the draft.
The Titans have been linked with picking one of those two men to revamp their offense. Neither has been described as a generational talent.
While Brinker won't just make the decision on who the Titans pick first overall, he'll also have a lot of say in the decision.
Tennessee has been on the clock for more than two weeks and has three months left before making a final decision on the No. 1 overall spot.
Hunter may already be on his way to Music-City.
